Inkundla Poetry Festival – June

This festival ties in with the youth celebrations during the youth month, June.  The festival gives an opportunity to young poets to sharpen their lyrical weapons and share their ideas and entertain other young people.

Workshops are organized around this festival to encourage the cultivation of sociably conscious poetry and the use of poetry for social change.

Well known poets like Nstiki Mazwai, Zuluboy, Mxolisi Mtshali, Shon G have participated in this festival generating grassroots appreciation of the spoken word.

 
Ishashalazi Women’s Theatre Festival

Aimed at uplifting female director’s voices in the theatre and writing industry. This festival unearths talent through workshops and prized competitions that help young female directors and actors gain exposure and training.


The festival has hosted workshop run but industry greats like International Author, Storyteller and Poet Gcina Mhlope, Director and Playwright Duma ka Ndlovu, Musician, Composer and Director Tu Nokwe.

 
KAFF – KwaZulu Natal African Film Festival (December)

An annual film festival focusing on mostly audience and skills development in the film industry. The festival showcases stories from the African experience from Africa and through out the Diaspora.

The festival celebrates its 6th year in December 2009. Having held training workshops and screenings for the past 5 years.


The festival has hosted workshops from film industry greats like Daniel Derreckson from the Writing Studio, Director Portia Rankoane, Director and acclaimed actor Sechaba Morojele, Hollywood Actress Gabrielle Union, Director and Producer Owen ‘Alik Shahadah.


The festival has brought to the township the likes of Rapulana Seiphemo (Tsosti, Jerusalema, White Wedding, State of Emergency), Kenneth Nkosi (District 9, White Wedding, Tsosti, State of Emergency)

 
Ukugiya Heritage Celebration


This event is held during September the heritage month to showcase our musical and cultural heritage. The event looks at extending the appreciation of cross cultures and encouraging learning from other cultures.


Through exchanges and workshops that culminate in a September 24(Heritage Days) performance Ukugiya reminds the community of their vibrant cultural heritage and also introduced them to other cultures.
