Video Documentary

Multimedia Film/Video Training Project (MUFIP): is the first video documentary production training project (in Kwa Zulu-Natal) run at a community level, which provides real video production and screen-writing skills.

MUFIP started in 1999 through funding from the London-based K-CAP patron Janine Ulfane. MUFIP is aimed at job creation prospects in the competitive film/video/TV industry and thus focuses on technical and behind-the-scenes practical skills training. There are regular group intakes of ten trainees many of who have been participating in the MUFIP intensive course since 1999.

    Theatre

    Theatre Department - get inside: Alive Kids Theatre Academy runs ongoing drama school annually with 20 aspirant and talented township artists. Targets both school-going youth and out-of-school youth. Workshops are held during the day, after school, on weekends and during school holidays.

    There is also Theatre Directing Master classes - run twice a year in June and December with new and emerging directors from all over KZN, led by award winning artistic director Edmund Mhlongo.

     
    Ekhaya Imagination Lab

    Ekhaya Imagination Lab - in partnership with Imagination Lab Vega Café the Ekhaya Lab runs a one-year certificate course (25 learners) designed to guide learners through a diversity of creative explorations in order to build their communication, conceptual and research skills, as well as improve their self-esteem, and generate social awareness and cultural sensitivity.

    Learners are given the opportunity to apply their skills and talents by interacting with professionals in community projects and "real-life" campaigns. The Imagination Lab course is a Level 4 Certificate in Creative Processes .

    The Ekhaya Lab also runs separate Visual Arts & Design Graphics (VIDEG) workshops that focuses mainly on computer graphics design technology skills training project and photography workshops. The focus is on the special needs of unemployed and out-of-school youth targeted as part of national development and reconstruction initiatives for young entrepreneurs.

     
    The Ekhaya Imagination Lab

    The Communications Industry has not yet developed a successful structure of selecting young creative people from previously disadvantaged communities and exposing them to career opportunities within creative fields. The benefits of building such structures are many.

    Historically the Communications Industry has been open to only a few in our country, we need to embrace the young vibrant creative talents and make these career avenues open to them.
