ABOUT THE PRODUCTION

The great legendary King Shaka is portrayed as a Zulu hero and a builder of the Zulu Kingdom and promoter of African unity. It is well known that King Shaka was against division and discrimination amongst tribes/clans and people and was a great believer in unity.

It is therefore fitting that the production is staged during September – the Heritage month - thereby providing international tourists and local audiences the opportunity of seeing this international acclaimed musical spectacular of colourful Zulu costumes and resounding dances. In 2001 this highly acclaimed K-CAP production had a successful run at the Johannesburg Civic Theatre where it was even attended by Dr Nelson Mandela who hailed it highly afterwards (“This has been my best ever night spent with my grandchildren…).

Now back, reworked and featuring highly acclaimed principal actors (like Henry Cele (Shaka), Brenda Mhlongo ( Nandi). The production presents an excellent opportunity to marvellously market and promote the heritage of South Africa, in particular the Nguni culture. King Shaka is respected world over and Henry Cele is renowned for playing Shaka with greatest professionalism resemblance of this mighty legend. Bayede Shaka!
